Although brief,his legacy is great
John McLucas married Sarah Anne Watson on the 13 April 1853 at Knowhead Presbyterian Parish Donegal Ireland. On the 7th July they sailed from Liverpool for a new life in Australia. They arrived in Moreton Bay aboard the ship"Caroline"on the 17th November 1853 . The Carolines'passenger records lists their Religion as Presbyterian. This indicates that their origins may be linked to Scotland, and they may be Scots-Irish.
They settled in at Woogaroo which is now the Suburb of Goodna between Ipswich and Brisbane. Originally Woogaroo had a Government sheep breeding station supplying sheep to settlers in the west. John and Sarahs' first Child was born at Woogaroo in 1854. Johns occupation is listed as a Shepherd.
John and Sarah then lost 5 boys in succession in between 1856-1860.
John purchased a property on Bundamba Creek in 1858 and the 4 of the 5 boys who lived were born on this property between 1861 and 1866. Within 2 months of last childs' birth Sarah was widowed as John died of Typhus Fever. He was buried in the Ipswich cemetery. As records for this cemetery do not exist prior to 1868, his grave is lost.
Sarah remarried in 1870 and the boys spent their youth around Purga and Milbong. Sarah Anne McLucas died in Ipswich as Sarah Ann Platt in 1901. Sarahs'Grave is also unknown.
